Belgium shut outs Switzerland in the final of the U23 European Baseball Championship Qualifier in Utena, Lithuania on Friday 12 August to qualify for next year’s U23 European Baseball Championship 2022.

The final game was a one-sided affair. Belgium’s Drew Janssen allowed just two hits and a walk in seven dominant innings, striking out 12 batters in the process. On offense Janssen also collected two RBI. Belgium scored three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to decide the outcome. Lucas Rizzi also had two RBI. Cee-Jay Savoldelli got charged with the loss.

Both teams reached the final with 3-1 records. Belgium’s lone loss in the preliminary round came against Israel, while Switzerland already was defeated by Belgium in the opening matchup, but then went on to win three consecutive games to reach the final.

Israel, Poland and Lithuania finished in third, fourth and fifth place in the final standings.
